New York State of Mind

Posted by Ali-G (Ottawa, Canada) on 29 October 2006 in Architecture.

There was a quest. We drove from Ottawa to New York - about 8 hour drive (i forget) for... a bowl of gyudon. Thats it - a bowl of beef on rice from Yoshinoya. Which might be strange - unless you've lived in Japan and done the night out in the bar district and then the early morning munchies - sitting at the counter in Yoshinoya with the salarymen and boso zoku everybody munching bowls of meat on rice. And New York has the only Yoshinoya in North America.
Next road trip? The holy grail - an authentic bowl of ramen. Real ramen - ramen you can smell a block away. Does it exist in North America?
Note the faces on the building - old buildings have so much more character.
