Headed up into the mountains of Mie prefecture of Japan, down winding roads so narrow that most of the North American SUVs would have fallen down the side of the mountain. Ended up at a restaurant in the middle of a forest with a mountain river running past. The restaurant served... amago - a type of trout - amago deep-fried, amago in miso shiru, amago sashimi, amago in sweet sauce... but we started with these guys. They brought them out on the skewers, so fresh that they were still flopping about - i am not exaggerating - two minutes before these guys were still swimming about, then gutted, skewered and now barbequed.
But i do have to say - they were all delicious!
