The Long and Winding Road

Hmmm maybe i'll finish off the Jasper-Banff pictures while i think up my new years resolutions.
My brother and I went hiking in this mountain range one summer and after spending five days cut off from civilization, we emerged somewhere near Lake Louise rather aromatic and nowhere near Godliness if that is where cleanliness is. I, scarely able to believe that the world chose to continue in its petty pace creeping from day to day whilst we were absent, decide to find a newspaper to catch up on the latest of the Israeli-Arab conflict (hint - for the last 40 years, NOTHING - I refuse to read any newspaper article about the Israeli-Arab conflict because nothing ever changes and so I figure it is a huge waste of time. The way I look at it is, the typical story about the middle east might take 5 minutes to read, 6 newspapers a week, 312 days a year, 40 years that is about 1040 hours or over 43 days that I have save and plan to use snoozing on a beach in Bali or hanging out in India someday). Anyway the first paper I came across had a screaming headline DI DRIVER DRUNK - and i thought whoa Di Done For a DUI, driving while dead drunk diva. It wasn't until a saw an Edmonton Journal later on that i realized that we had missed one of the biggest stories of the year while chasing down bear scat. Somehow cosmically waking up in a field of frost as the morning's first sunrays paint the tip of the mountain peaks pink is better karma than wallowing in the feebile and febrile focal point of the unfortunately famous.

btw it just occurred to me that the above calculation as to the amount to time saved skipping articles in the newspaper might indicate that I am some toothless fogey whose idea of a swinging Saturday night is drooling on my Bay City Roller t-shirt while perusing the Pass-the-Cougar-Stage personal ads in the local Community Paper For Those Who Don't Have A Life - rest assured I started reading the paper at an early age... a very early age... actually does it count if my Mum used to skip the middle-east stories during pregnancy or family planning?
