Auschwitz 2: Dead CitiesPosted by Ali-G (Ottawa, Canada) on 24 January 2007 in Miscellaneous. We drove out to the Auschwitz death camps in our little rented German car - anyone who has driven in Poland, or at least around Krakow, knows that it takes at least three times as long as anywhere in western Europe, as you wind down single lane highways, past houses that could pass as bucolic or simply run-down. It had been threatening rain all day and now the clouds released a grey drizzle. I had a CD on The Future Sound of London's Dead Cities - as we finished the final few miles through the Polish countryside approaching Auschwitz, the fifth track Everybody in the World is Doing Something Without Me played. Couldn't have picked a more horribly appropriate track if i tried - M refuses to ever listen to that CD again.
